GRAND TERRACE>> Every year, Inland Empire residents gather to recognize those who have gone above and beyond for their community. This year’s, the 6th Annual Unforgettable Hearts Awards, took place on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Fox Event Center in Redlands. Among the many award recipients were Margie and Jim Miller of Grand Terrace. Margie Miller sits on the board of Unforgettables Foundation and is the current publisher and editor of City News Group, Inc. Her husband, Jim Miller, is the Real Property Manager for the entire county of San Bernardino. The Millers were presented with a certificate and commemorative plaque from Senator Mike Morrell, along with San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Connie Leyva and Assembly Member Eloise Reyes for their work with The Unforgettables Foundation. The Unforgettables Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 by Tim Evans. After a decade of clinical ministry work, Evans had witnessed firsthand the devastating financial impact the loss of a child can have on a family. With help from a dedicated team of health care providers, social workers, morticians and many more, The Unforgettables Foundation, was formed. Designed to help provide low income families with the financial means to bury a child, The Unforgettables was a cause that the Millers felt they needed to support. Since coming on board in 2011, the Millers have worked tirelessly to support fundraisers, charity golf tournaments and auctions. “At the time The Unforgettables Foundation was looking for people to join their mission, and once we heard what the purpose was, we thought it would be fantastic to provide a helping hand,” said Jim Miller. In addition to their many fundraising efforts, the Millers strive to promote awareness for The Unforgettables Foundation. “We want to make people aware of the necessity of this organization and how they can help,” said Margie Miller. "They encourage the public to donate, attend fundraisers, and to get involved in whatever way possible." While The Unforgettables Foundation mainly serves to aid families with burial costs, they also help provide emotional support to families that have lost children. Every year, The Unforgettables Foundation presents the annual Lights for Little Lives Memorial Walk, an event that celebrates the lives of children who have passed. Parents participate in the walk and are given the opportunity to speak about the child they loss. “We go every year and it makes us appreciate how blessed we are,” said Margie Miller. Founder Tim Evans eventually hopes to be able to share The Unforgettables with those outside the State of California. “He has expanded the whole concept,” said Jim Miller. “And it’s wonderful to see all the people that Tim's helped.” In the future, Margie and Jim Miller will continue to support The Unforgettables Foundation in any way they can. “It’s a fantastic organization,” said Jim Miller. “Both Margie and I are very proud to provide ongoing support of this organization."
