The Grand Terrace High School Senior Legacy program, a subcommittee of the Foundation for Youth, was established with the goal of ensuring that all high school seniors in Grand Terrace have the opportunity to participate in memorable senior events, regardless of their financial or personal circumstances. These events are often expensive, and many students face hardships that make it difficult to afford such experiences.

A resident and co-founder of GTHS Senior Legacy, spoke about the program's mission and the impact it has had on students. She shared a touching story about a senior who was able to attend prom thanks to the program, even though he was doing distant learning from his car due to his challenging living situation. This example highlights the importance of providing support and memorable experiences to students who may otherwise miss out.

The Senior Legacy committee carefully selects beneficiaries through a rigorous process that includes surveys, meetings with faculty and staff, and group discussions. This ensures that the support reaches those who need it most while respecting the anonymity of the families involved.

Last year, with the help of the community and sponsors, the Senior Legacy program provided six grad night tickets, six prom tickets, three pairs of senior inspiration dinner tickets for parents, three yearbooks, cap and gown sets, and seven scholarships, totaling over $5,000 in support for the class of 2023. The program aims to continue making these memories possible for deserving students in the class of 2024.

The grant from the Grand Terrace Foundation for Youth will play a vital role in helping Senior Legacy achieve its mission and make a positive impact on the lives of local high school seniors. It serves as a testament to the community's commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to celebrate their senior year and create lasting memories. The Foundation for Youth's support reflects its dedication to enriching the lives of young people in Grand Terrace and fostering a sense of community and inclusion. The generous grant will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of these students as they approach the culmination of their high school journey.

The City Council unanimously approved the grant during a recent meeting, recognizing the importance of supporting local youth and ensuring that they have the opportunity to participate in significant milestones during their senior year. This grant exemplifies the community's spirit of unity and commitment to its youth, showing that Grand Terrace is a place where every student matters.

This event is entirely free for all students. The GTHS Senior Legacy Committee believes in removing any financial barriers to ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate and enjoy the pre-prom experience.
