A crowd favorite returned to our city last weekend: Grand Terrace Community Day! From Michigan to Mount Vernon and from Pico to Palm, the entire community drew together on June 4, 2022 at Richard Rollins Park for a day filled with food, fun, car shows, and snow cones, all while learning more about their city.
The event was hosted by the City of Grand Terrace and organized with the help of volunteers and local organizations such as the Grand Terrace Foundation. Over 30 businesses, clubs, and community groups showcased their artwork, talents, products, and services. The day kicked off with Mayor Darcy McNaboe welcoming the Cub Scouts to present the Boy Scouts of America Troop 40 Presentation of Colors and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, which was followed by the national anthem sung by Miss Riverside City 2022, Olivia Matas.
The rest of the afternoon was filled with games that kept the crowd entertained and light on their feet: musical chairs, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest, a potato sack race, and tug of war. The event also featured the Annual Mickey Car Show with over 25 cars on display, and a DJ booth and music provided by Rhythm Tech Sounds. The night concluded with chairs and blankets on the grass for a family Movie in the Park viewing of “Encanto.”
This long-running event has been a pillar for the City of Grand Terrace for years. After the long wait due to the pandemic, the people of the city were eager to have everyone come together. Financial support was provided by the City of Grand Terrace, event raffles, sponsorships such as Lewis Group of Companies, Aleshire & Wynder, and City News Group, all of which contributed to making this annual event something residents looked forward to. GT Lions Club member Louise Lunstrum said, “This is the first Community Day since the start of the pandemic. It’s good for us all to finally come back together.”
The City of Grand Terrace continues to remain a prime example of integrity living within a small community.
