In an event that was both global and simultaneously community oriented, the Grand Terrace Lions Club opened its doors to members of the community, and the friends and family of Lion Club members for a catered lunch on April 4th.
The event, called The Lions World Lunch Relay, included 500 of the 46,000 Lions Clubs that are now active around the world.
Lions Club International President Berry Palmer called for Lions Clubs around the world to open their doors to the community at noon on their time zone. As lunches were hosted at noon around the world, the "relay" moved from time-zone to time-zone.
Penny Radkte who is the wife of 2nd Vice District Governor David Radkte said that there was no way that the Grand Terrace Lions were going to miss this opportunity to fellowship with the community. "Grand Terrace is a unique community. We are involved. We care and are passionate about service, so we didn't hesitate to participate in this project," Radtke shared.
During the event, Grand Terrace Lions Club played a slideshow with pictures of projects the club has been a part of throughout its 40 years service to the community. Flags from different countries where Lions Clubs could be found were tied to balloons to decorate the event in Grand Terrace.
Lions have been serving globally since 1917, investing in the youth through community projects, and aiding the blind and visually impaired. With 1.35 million members, Lions Clubs International is believed to be the largest service club organization in the world.
