The Northern Section CIF finals for boys wrestling were held this past Friday and Saturday at Citrus Hills High School in Perris. For some the goal was to make it farther than they did last year. For some it’s to make it in the all-important top 5, which means a trip to the Masters Meet. And for some it was about standing on top of the podium as the champion of your weight class. Grand Terrace High School sent the following students to vie for a champion spot and a trip to the next level, Masters:
113- Malaki Mailo- League Champion
126- Tony Odenbaugh- League Champion
138- Marcos Rubio- League Champion
170- Manuel Camacho- League Champion
120- Gabriel Morales- CIF Qualifier
132- Ruben Hernandez- CIF Qualifier
145- Pablo Arceniega- CIF Qualifier
152- Jared Truitt- CIF Qualifier
160- Alan Robles- CIF Qualifier
182- Luke Vargas- CIF Qualifier
195- Matthew Ruelas- CIF Qualifier
HVY- RC Rivas- CIF Qualifier.
At the end of 2 days of grueling victories and defeats, all but two Grand Terrace wrestlers had been eliminated. Senior RC Rivas defeated numerous opponents seeded higher than him to take third in his weight class and advance to Masters. Senior Manuel Camacho also battled for two days to take 7th place in CIF. Fountain Valley topped all teams in the Northern Division with seven Masters Meet qualifiers. The Masters Meet will be held at Cerritos College next Friday and Saturday. In order to qualify, wrestlers had to finish in the top five of their weight class. A sixth qualifying position was allocated for the 126-, 152-, 160-, 195-, and 220-pound weight classes. The Titans stand behind Rivas as he journeys to the next level on the mat and they wind down the season as the most victorious wrestling squad in the school’s 7 year history.
