On Wednesday, February 8, The Girl Scout Troop 76 along with students from the local middle school, help bring some much-needed Valentine’s cheer to the elderly at Vista Blue Mountain assisted living in Grand Terrace.   The girls provided the residents at Vista Blue Mountain with Valentine's treats, chocolate, gnomes, and art ornaments. The girls went around and helped the elderly, engaged with them in great conversation, and helped them decorate the ornaments and Valentine’s Day art. “I thought it was important to add that the girls collaborate with other girls in the community,” said Troop Leader Julia Firnkoess. “It's important to engage them in community service and it's great to see them come together to help others.” Late last year, Ava Firnkoess and Jillian Mendoza put a project together for their Silver Award Project that focused on having emergency menstrual kits available to girls starting puberty early, this project would have menstrual essentials available to girls as young as fourth grade and up. Carrying this bill to legislation is Majority Leader Eloise Gomez Reyes. Just recently, Ava and Jillian from Troop 76 were invited to Majority Leader Reyes's 50th District swearing-in ceremony. The girls took this time to thank the Majority Leader for all the work that she has done to support the community and the local Girl Scouts. Ava and Jillian are preparing to head to Sacrament in March to present their Silver Award project and the proposed bill, bill AB 230. “The girls could use some support from our community,” said Troop Leader Julia. "If they want to write a letter of support, they can send it in through a portal or directly to our email and will take the letters with us.” For more information regarding the Girl Scout Troop 76 and their projects, please contact Troop Leader Julia Firnkoess at j.firnkoess@hotmail.com.
