On Dec. 18, firefighters from the Grand Terrace Fire Department were on their way to a medical call at Emeritus when they saw smoke coming from a vacant lot in the 22100 block of De Berry, according to Captain Ed Noble, at the scene.
Upon investigation, they found the source of the smoke was an old sofa hidden under some trees near the back of the lot. It was unknown who had set the sofa ablaze.
As the flames were extinguished, the crew received an emergency call and left the site only to return later to make sure all of the embers had been taken care of.
