Mojave River Academy students joined youth across the globe in this year’s Hour of Code. The event, championed by a partnership of leading companies including Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the College Board, introduced students to the world of computer science, specifically computer programming, also known as coding. “Our school is always looking for opportunities to further enhance student success with 21st century tools,” said Mojave River Academy Teacher Monta Romriell. “The Hour of Code event allows us to educate students in problem solving, logic, and creativity in an exciting environment.” During the week of Dec. 7–13 students participated in the Hour of Code event to celebrate Computer Science Education Week. Each year the global movement aims at reaching tens of millions of students to learn basic to advance skills in computer coding. Computer coding is one of many skills that are in high demand in today’s economy. Mojave River Academy’s involvement in being a host for the event is another example of how their personalized approach to education is preparing students for college and careers. The academy’s online curriculum and comprehensive independent study program, strives on providing its students hands on experience to help them reach their full potential.
