On Sept. 12, at Azure Hills Adventist Church in Grand Terrace, the community kicked off the morning with a Health and Fitness Fair. Andy McRae, Committee Chair of Healthy Grand Terrace (GT) is also the community pastor at Azure Hills Church. Sally McGuire, program director of Healthy GT and their public health intern Ladi Khoddam were at the event to welcome local businesses and get the fair started. Local businesses and organizations were able to set up on their own booth. Emeritus Assisted Living, Spring Hills Family Dentistry, Farmer’s Insurance, and many independent businesses participated. To start off, all of the booths gave a brief description of their business or organization. McGuire, McRae, and Khoddam then gave a brief speech about the fair and what they would like to accomplish from it. McRae shared, “Grand Terrace can be a small town with a big heart for what’s healthy, what’s fit, and what’s good for the community.” “The big thing that we can take from today is just getting to know one another to collaborate in the future,” Khoddam stated after explaining how thankful she is that all of the businesses and organizations were able to attend. “There are a lot of great people hear that want to move forward and make improvements with holistic health and making man whole,” she added. McGuire added, “We are small but people are committed here.”
