This past Tuesday, Dec. 9, the REC Center launched for the very first time "the TEEN Center" which welcomes teens for a visit or after-school hangout.
The TEEN Center, located at Terrace Hills Middle School, offers students a safe and fun place to go after school hours.
The TEEN Center will provide a snack shop, homework assistance and even games including video games and fooseball.
Executive Director Jennifer Araiza shared, "We can't complain about the trouble kids are getting into, if we aren't providing them any other options."
According to Araiza, some of the Grand Terrace schools have unfortunately been effected by not receiving Title I funds, especially with the lack of after-school programs.
The REC Center, with the help of Sandals Church, 3Ring Creative and individual donations, is able to provide this helpful option to its community members.
The TEEN Center, opening its doors for the first time on Dec. 9, attracted a pretty decent crowd of about twenty to twenty-five students.
"It's a classroom-size area. We're hoping to get about forty students on a regular basis," Araiza said.
The TEEN Center is open every Tuesday and Thursday.
Araiza added, "Our intention is to open the doors 5 days a week by March of next year."
