Hundreds gathered Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Lions Club Community Center on Barton Road for a home-cooked breakfast and to show support for the city’s young musicians. The Grand Terrace Lions Club estimated that about 500 breakfasts of pancakes, sausage, eggs, fruit and juice were sold, with “all proceeds (minus expenses) “going to benefit the Terrace Hills Middle School band program,” said Lions Club Newsletter Editor Penny Radtke. The pancake breakfast is held semiannually, once each year in April and then again in either September or October, explained Radtke. The breakfast event has run for about 20 years, and in the last year the Lions Club has worked with several community organizations and programs, using the pancake breakfast to benefit these programs. In May, the Lions Worked with the Terrace View Elementary Production program to raise money for the school’s annual community play. Members of the Grand Terrace Lions Club, Leo Club and members of Boy Scout Troop 40 helped prepare and cook the breakfast, as well as set up and clean up for the event, shared Radtke. She explained she feels Grand Terrace is very receptive to the breakfast event because it furthers the desire to support local organizations. “The community comes together to support us. They know the good works the Lions do in the community, but parents also like to support the children, and they did that,” said Radtke. The breakfast ran for four hours Sunday morning. The next breakfast will take place next year in April.
