Fatal Shots Ring Out in San Bernardino

A fatal nightclub shooting that spilled out to a nearby gas station in the early hours of Wednesday, March 4, left three people dead and four others wounded, San Bernardino City law enforcement officials confirmed Thursday. One suspect was taken into custody Thursday, police told local media. The shooting at the Stingers nightclub at 194 Club Center Drive took place around closing time at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning before spilling out to a nearby AM/PM gas station. Two male victims police identified as Petetrial Michael Scott and Jerry Jamale Jackson were pronounced dead by Wednesday. Five others were wounded, two of whom were listed in "critical condition," said Lieutenant Rich Lawhead, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino City Police Department. Just after 5 a.m., one of those victims in critical condition, Teron Reed, 33, of San Bernardino, died due to injuries he sustained in the shooting, police confirmed. Investigators arrested Vincent Malone, 30, on suspicion of Reed's homicide. Malone was booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino in lieu of a total $170,000 bail for attempted murder and a slew of traffic violations, county booking records show. On Monday, March 9, San Bernardino police who were assisted by a fugitive task force took Richard Allen Wynne, 30, of Victorville, into custody on suspicion of the murder of Scott and the attempted murder of Richard Ford, 28, of Victorville. Ford was not injured. Wynne was located by authorities in Las Vegas and is booked at the Clark County Metro Jail, according to a report issued by San Bernardino police. The remaining three injured victims were treated at area hospitals and had been released, Lawhead said. The violence began when shots rang out at approximately 1:47 a.m. March 4, according to police officials, with 150 to 200 people in the parking lot and exiting the nightclub. Lawhead said in a release that officers were dispatched to the nightclub in reference to some uncooperative subjects. Citing witnesses, San Bernardino police said the subjects were identified as gang members and were denied access to the bar because they were possibly rivals of subjects already inside. San Bernardino police were called earlier in the night after the subjects denied entry into the nightclub remained in the nightclub parking lot but complied with responding officers who asked them to leave. Approximately 200 people exited the nightclub and moved to the parking lot around closing time, police officials said. Police were called once again after nightclub security saw that the subjects who were asked to leave earlier had returned. At 1:47 a.m. officers received a call of shots fired and while officers were on scene at the Stingers nightclub a shots fired call was also reported at the nearby AM/PM. A white, 4-door sedan had been identified by police as being both at the Stingers Night Club and the Arco AM/PM around the time of the shooting. "It is unclear whether the vehicle was occupied by suspects or victims," Lt. Lawhead said. Lt. Lawhead did not provide the names of the gangs suspected to be involved in the shooting and told local media outlets it was unclear exactly what had sparked the shooting. The melee continued hours later when San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials received a report of a disturbance at approximately 7 a.m. at the Loma Linda University Medical Center. According to San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials, approximately 75 family and friends of victims involved in the Stingers shooting became upset after doctors announced the death of one of the shooting victims, who was being treated at the medical center. San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies, San Bernardino police and Redlands police responded to the call. According to sheriff's deputies, the subjects left the area upon law enforcement arrival. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. "[The] early morning shootings at Stingers Night Club and Arco AM/PM were the result of gang violence," said Lt. Lawhead. "This event is tragic and disturbing.... The San Bernardino Police Department is not tolerant of gang activity and has heightened its gang enforcement. Our residents will be safe." The deaths are the seventh, eighth and ninth homicides in San Bernardino this year, Lawhead said.
