Grand Terrace High School recently held its annual Sadie Hawkins Dance Saturday, Nov. 15. Every year, the ASB students throw the traditional and old-fashion Sadie Hawkins Dance to bring the school together for a good time. Student Activities Director Leilani Bautista said, “We tried to get it on the first Saturday of November but that couldn’t happen. At least we stuck to the tradition of keeping it in November.” The theme of the dance was “Sweet Harvest” so the Grand Terrace students dressed up country western style and gathered at the cafeteria Saturday night at 7 p.m. The annual dance, sponsored by the Renaissance Leadership class, brought in over 200 students. “Each year, more and more students participate,” Bautista said. She also explained that this dance was less expensive then the three traditional dances every high school throws throughout the year. There was also a fun surprise for all the students, as well. Local musician and Grand Terrace resident Tye Anderson reached out to Grand Terrace High School to help promote the event. “All of his work was donated… he wanted to do this for us, it was great,” Bautista said. Friday, Nov. 14, during lunch time thanks to Tye Anderson brought out the Ochoa Boyz from Disney Channel to help promote the Sadie Hawkins Dance being held the following the night. After the Ochoa Boyz hyped everyone up for the upcoming dance, the following night many of them gathered at the cafeteria to have a night full of dancing. Alongside the Ochoa Boyz and Tye Anderson, upcoming singer Anthony Starr also joined the event and performed for the students. Together they put on live entertainment and shared an anti-bullying message. The dance went on until 11 p.m. that night. “The dance doubled in size this year… all the students were so excited about all of the celebrities,” Bautista added.
