Darryl Reed Sings and Shakes at GT Senior Center

Seniors who watched Darryl Reed’s performance at the Grand Terrace Senior Center last month felt taken back to their younger years. Reed, a Riverside resident who has harbored a love of music since his childhood, made his first trip to the senior center that day and brought to life some classic songs from artists like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, musicians who are still revered today. For an hour, seniors swayed and sang along with Reed—and that’s his favorite part about performing, he shared. “The main reason why I [perform] is to have fun. They seemed to enjoy me, and people laugh and clap and sing along. [Friday’s group] was amazingly lively. They were great,” Reed said. The feeling was mutual. “He was a great performer and everybody had a great time,” said Arlene Weaver, Sunshine Chairman and active member at the Senior Center. Refreshments following the program were courtesy of Legal Shield and Marilyn Denney. Reed’s performance was part of a monthly performance series at the Senior Center. Next month, the Center will welcome the Princess Kaiulani dancers.
