GRAND TERRACE>> The 10th anniversary of the Walk on Blue Mountain is approaching and will be held on Sunday, March 5 at 8 a.m. This the community's once-a-year chance to enjoy the best view of Grand Terrace in all directions while hiking up the 2,428 foot summit. This is a free-of-charge event. However, donations will be appreciated to help the Friends of Blue Mountain’s fundraising efforts to purchase land and create a wilderness trail which will one day be accessible all year-round. Parking and roundtrip shuttle services will be available at Grand Terrace City Hall and Azure Hills Church. Pick up will start at 8 a.m. and will end at 11 a.m. For those returning from Blue Mountain, the last bus leaves at 12:30 p.m. The buses will be departing every 30 minutes from the two locations and from Blue Mountain. Participants are encouraged to arrive early and are reminded to bring water, a hat, sunscreen, windbreaker and sturdy footwear for the hike. Hikers may begin at 8 a.m. but no later than 10:45 a.m. and start proceeding down the mountain at 12:30 p.m. The weather forecast for Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 71 degrees and a low of 48 degrees. During the annual event, pets are allowed but must remain on a leash at all times. The event is also a favorite for llamas and their owners. A church service will also be held at the top of Blue Mountain and commemorative t-shirts will be available for those who wish to purchase one.
