The residents of Grand Terrace have spoken in their support of a new leadership regime with the election of a new mayor, Darcy McNaboe, and new Council Member Doug Wilson. On Nov. 4, a total of 2,808 ballots were cast in the city, with Darcy McNaboe receiving 1,531 supporting votes versus former Mayor Walt Stanckiewitz’s 1,133 votes, and Doug Wilson receiving 1,289 votes versus candidate William “Bill” Hussey’s 1,200 votes. The first order of business at the Dec. 9, City Council meeting was the Declaration of Results of the Nov. 4 General Election by the city clerk followed by special presentations made to outgoing Mayor Stanckiewitz by local dignitaries and organizations. San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor James Ramos was in attendance to show support for both the past mayor and the newly elected incoming mayor. Supervisor Ramos said, “I wanted to be here tonight to express my gratitude to Mayor Stanckiewitz for all of the great work he did in keeping the city moving forward through a sea of turmoil over the past six years he was on council and as mayor. He performed admirably in a time of discord.” After receiving accolades from different individuals and groups, Stanckiewitz addressed the audience in the council chamber by saying, “It has been a long journey over the past six years but I want to give tribute to all of the city staff members who were here during that time and gave of themselves for the betterment of Grand Terrace. We have lost 23 staff members and gone through five city clerks this past year alone. It has been a trying time, but I leave my post feeling pride for work I’ve done during my tenure on the council. I wish the newly elected council members well and remember to do right by the residents.” After a short intermission, the installation of the newly elected officials was done, and each one them presented brief remarks to the residents remaining in the council chambers. Newly-elected Mayor Darcy McNaboe stated, “I appreciated working with ex-Mayor Stanckiewitz over the past couple of years, and to be able to work through issues with him either on a positive or negative basis; there are many challenges ahead for the city but a lot of opportunities, as well.” Newly-elected Council Member Doug Wilson said, “It has taken a long time to get here, but it is worth it, as I want to serve this community by making it stronger. I’m looking forward to working with all of the current members on council and the new mayor.” Finally, Supervisor Ramos stated, “I wish the new elected officials all of the success they can accomplish and hopefully their input in municipal government can transfer for good use by working hand-in-hand with the county, also.”
