The Venue Catches an Electric Feel

Like the Blues? And like to Rock? "Blues Alarm!" provides both every Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the old JB's Lighthouse, now called The Venue. Long time Grand Terrace resident and guitarist Bruce Fulper formed the group so locals could have a weekly place to hear 60's and 70's Blues / Rock early in the evening. And it's free! Bruce's musical background extends back before he was born, as his pregnant mother often played Hawaiian guitar on her lap. Jokingly, he said he remembers trying to get her attention to get her to play "Great Balls of Fire." Seriously, those smokin' hot early pioneers of Electric Blues were his first Rock 'N' Roll influences. IE: Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton, Leslie West, Ritchie Blackmore, Billy Gibbons, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and many more. Whether it's a slow Blues or a 100 MPH Mojo freight train coming at you, all of that blended history pours off the stage. See their Blues Alarm! Facebook page and please share it. Help a local maybe hit the "big time." They're a three piece band with John Zuponic on bass/vocals and Ray Diaz on the drums. They play two long sets starting early at 8 p.m. just so the working folk can relax, have a drink, clap wildly at the end of each song and still get home at a pleasant hour. That's every Tuesday at The Venue, 22400 Barton Road, directly across from the old Starter Brothers. Start a Tuesday night trend with Blues Alarm!
