Mayor Pro Tem Bernardo Sandoval submitted his resignation from the city council at the Jan. 14 Grand Terrace City Council meeting. Sandoval’s reason for leaving centers around his new upper management work position offered to him in the Rancho Cucamonga/West Valley area. He has been on council since 2010 and was scheduled to seek office again in November of this year. “This new position will require an extraordinary amount of time to get acclimated to and I don’t want to jeopardize the residents of Grand Terrace during my learning curve," Sandoval said. "As I have stated in the past, I ran for city council because I really have a passion and deep concern for the community of Grand Terrace and I believe if the community is to grow it must be able to let go of the past and focus on the future, which in turn will provide great rewards.” One of Sandoval’s last voting actions on council was to approve and appoint an interim city manager, Kenneth Henderson, to oversee the city for the next year. Current City Manager Betsy Adams leaves that post on Jan. 31.
