The Grand Terrace Cub Scouts Pack 242 on Sept. 14 hosted another successful spaghetti dinner event at the Lions Club Community Center on Barton Road in Grand Terrace. For $7 a plate, hungry visitors were treated to a meal of homemade spaghetti, salad and various desserts including brownies, cupcakes and cookies purchased and cooked by Pack parents, stated Pack mom Lynn Hegardt. This year there was a lot of parent participation, she said, with Pack parents donating a good amount of food, saving the Pack money on purchasing various ingredients. Though there were some hiccups leading up to the dinner, the group of volunteers put on yet another smooth event that left everyone full and satisfied, Hegardt shared. “The night of the event went perfect and turnout was wonderful,” she said, adding that more than 100 visitors stopped by to grab a plate between the hours of 4 and 8 that evening, with the opportunity to meet the Cub Scouts and just have a good time, Hegardt noted. Throughout the night, Cub Scouts themselves tended to their guests and showed them some hospitality, clearing away plates and refilling drinks, said Hegardt. The annual event raises funds for awards and various other outdoor scouting activities, Hegardt shared. The Cub Scouts participate in many different activities each year, including trips to the zoo, camping trips and the Pinewood Derby. The next upcoming activity is the Webelos Camp Out, which honors each Cub Scout pack member preparing to move on to the Boy Scouts troops.
