Friday night lights are back. Your Grand Terrace Titans playing host to the Yucaipa Thunderbirds. With the honorable Mayor of Grand Terrace Walt Stanckiewitz as honorary captain for the GTHS football team at the coin toss, the season has begun. The large opening night crowd was excited to see what the 2014 Titans had since coming within two minutes of their first CIF playoff birth last season. With the Thunderbirds and Titans exchanging scores in the first quarter to stay even, the Titans took an early second quarter lead but unfortunately that was all the scoring for the Titans. A couple of costly turnovers didn't help and with the Thunderbirds scoring 31 unanswered points, the week 1 non-league match up was slipping through their hands. The Titans kept playing hard 'til the end of the game but victory was not there. The game's final score was Yucaipa Thunderbirds 38, Grand Terrace Titans 14. GTHS will try to rebound this week as the host, the Chaffey High School Tigers, kickoff is at 7 p.m. The GTHS Football Boosters will be hosting the 2nd annual "Honor the Veterans Night" the pre-game ceremony begins at 6 p.m. at the GTHS Titans Stadium.
