GRAND TERRACE >> Seniors at the Grand Terrace Senior Center are always on the go with the shuttle bus service that is provided to them. The shuttle bus seats 15 passengers and takes weekly trips to local stores like Wal-Mart, Ross, the 99 cent store, the library and will even transport seniors to doctor appointments if they call ahead for a reservation. The shuttle also includes special group trips to varying locations to provide fun activities. Last summer, seniors were able to take the shuttle bus to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and a trip to see the Festival of Lights at the Mission Inn this past Christmas. The shuttle bus is also offering monthly trips to the movies. The first trip was in January and seniors were able to see the Oscar nominated movie “La La Land.” “We had ten people, we went to the movies and stopped on the way home for lunch. By the end of the trip people were asking when our next one will be,” said Flo Elliott, volunteer director of Senior Services at the Grand Terrace Senior Center. The next movie shuttle bus trip will be on Monday, March 27 at the Kikorian Redlands Cinema 14 to enjoy the new Disney live-action film “Beauty and the Beast.” Afterward, Elliott said they will have lunch at the Grand Terrace Senior Center; they will be ordering pizza with a salad and a dessert. Elliott said they also plan to be doing other short trips around the Grand Terrace area such as places like the local shops, stores, restaurants and library. Pick up is usually from the Senior Center however, seniors can contact the bus driver and request they be picked up at their home. Notification must be made in a few days in advance to reserve a ride. In order to ride the bus, it costs a total of 50 cents each way. Elliott said the program was made possible by a grant that was issued to the Senior Center from the City of Grand Terrace. “(The grant) shows the city really cares about giving the seniors a quality of life,” Elliott said. To get more information or to schedule a pick up, call the bus driver Shanita Mason at 909-961-8982
