The 50+Club members at the city of Colton’s Luque Center held their monthly special event on July 10. The get-together was themed, ‘The Fiesta de San Fermin,’ in honor of the summer festival in Pamplona, Spain, well known for ‘the running of the bulls.’ Jennie Granado of Colton, Sara Jamison of Grand Terrace and Angela Mercado of Redlands attended a craft class, held in conjunction with the event, and learned how to make crepe paper flowers that were used as table decorations for the seniors lunch that day. Antonette Williams, senior recreation leader, explained that the flower craft was chosen because onlookers at Pamplona's Running of the Bulls throw flowers onto those participating in the run. Seniors were treated to an appetizer of chips, salsa and special pastries as they sat around chatting with each other, waiting for the Spanish culinary dish of beef fajitas and all the extras to be served. Throughout the Fiesta de San Fermin celebration, traditional Spanish music played, with the song ‘Pobre De Mi’ (Poor Me) featured. ‘Pobre De Mi’ is the customary melody sung at the closing of the running of the bulls to lament the end of the Fiesta de San Fermin.
