Grand Terrace Properly Disposes

Grand Terrace held a Hazardous Waste Collection Event on May 14 at the Grand Terrace City Hall to help residents practice safer, more environmentally conscious ways to recycle and dispose of dangerous waste. From 8 a.m. to noon, Grand Terrace residents were able brought unwanted, hazardous waste, such as motor oil, household cleaners, and microwave ovens, to the Waste Collection event. To help residents practice safe disposal habits, a one-page guide featuring “Oily Cat” was passed around the community. “Oily Cat,” an environmentally-friendly cat with oil-drenched fur, reminded residents to “buy less, use less, and pollute less” in lieu of the event. Many daily household products can potentially contain lethal ingredients and without the special care required during disposal, products such as printers, space heaters, or batteries can result in dangerous situations for both people and the environment. The event was organized by the San Bernardino County Fire Department’s Household Hazardous Waste Division and co-sponsored by San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, City of Grand Terrace and San Bernardino County Fire Department. The event hopefully would prompt residents to be more mindful of disposing hazardous waste.
