In an important step toward confirming the region’s commitment to student success, the Colton City Council on Tuesday adopted a resolution in support of the county’s Cradle to Career Roadmap, making Colton the first city in San Bernardino County to formally endorse the initiative. Resolution R-127-15 was unanimously adopted by the City Council Tuesday, Dec. 15. The passage of the resolution demonstrates strong community support for long-term student success. “We are excited to be a part of Cradle to Career Roadmap,” noted Colton Mayor Richard DeLaRosa. “With mutual efforts by the City, School District, law enforcement and the ministerial organizations, together we can ensure a better future for our community youth.” “I am thrilled the City of Colton has taken this step to help every child succeed from cradle to career,” said San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chairman James Ramos. “As supporters of the Cradle to Career Roadmap, the City of Colton recognizes that only through collective community action will we be able to build the future our community desires and deserves.” The Cradle to Career Roadmap was developed for the Countywide Vision, a collective impact model where broad-based support in all sectors of the community come together to foster fundamental future success in San Bernardino County and the region. The Roadmap was developed under the Education Element Group under the Countywide Vision. The offices of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and California State University, San Bernardino led the community efforts to develop the Roadmap. It marks the life-long journey of continuous learning needed for every student to be college-and career-ready following their high school graduation. Education leaders also congratulated Colton on its endorsement of the Roadmap. “I applaud the mayor and the Colton City Council for adopting the Cradle to Career Roadmap,” said San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Ted Alejandre. “In education, we know how valuable the connections are between the classrooms and our communities. We look forward to working with the City of Colton to ensure that all our students are college- and career-ready when they graduate from high school.” “I am very proud of the City of Colton for passing this historic resolution,” added Colton Joint Unified School District Superintendent Jerry Almendarez. “The Cradle to Career Roadmap ensures not only our students’ individual success, but the success of our city and county as we develop a more educated and prepared workforce. The support of all stakeholders is critical in this effort.”
