Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California (CCFSC) recently announced that it has received a $35,000 (USD) grant from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. The funds will support core programs of Childhood Cancer Foundation. The San Manuel grant will be used to further sustain the organization's efforts to make support programs accessible to families who have a child with cancer. Funding will enhance the benefits provided through the following programs: Family Assistance, Teen Connection, “Doug-Out” – a two-bedroom home provided to registered families at no cost during treatment, Annual Christmas Celebration, and the production of the 2015 calendar. We celebrate this gift as recognition of the long-term alignment and friendship between San Manuel and Childhood Cancer Foundation. “It is through the kindness of supporters like San Manuel that we are able to continue to provide these programs to our families. These special children benefit from a program that gives them the opportunity to have normal life experiences in spite of their life threatening diagnosis,” said Program Coordinator Stephanie Avila. Great thanks go to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for this generous grant. The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is a federally recognized American Indian tribe located near the city of Highland, Calif. The Serrano Indians are the indigenous people of the San Bernardino highlands, passes, valleys and mountains who share a common language and culture. The San Manuel reservation was established in 1891 and recognized as a sovereign nation with the right of self-government. Since time immemorial, the San Manuel tribal community has endured change and hardship. Amidst these challenges the tribe continued to maintain its unique form of governance. Like other governments it seeks to provide a better quality of life for its citizens by building infrastructure, maintaining civil services and promoting social, economic and cultural development. Today, San Manuel tribal government oversees many governmental units including the departments of fire, public safety, education and environment. Childhood Cancer Foundation is accepting donations to continue to enhance the programs provided to families who have a child diagnosed with cancer.
