Riverside Highland Water Company to Ease Outdoor Water Restrictions

GRAND TERRACE>> Since June of 2015, Riverside Highland Water Company shareholders and customers have conserved over 600 million gallons of water. We are very pleased with your efforts and would like to thank you for your diligence during the drought.

Recently, the State Water Resources Control Board has rescinded some of the mandatory water conservation restrictions.

At the April 27, 2017 meeting, the Riverside Highland Water Company Board of Directors elected to ease the outdoor watering restrictions. While you are now free to water as you wish, we would like to remind you that California Senate Bill X7-7, which was passed in 2009, requires all urban water users reduce per capita water use 20 percent by the year 2020. Also, while the State of California is out of the drought, the aquifers that we as a region pump from are still far below normal. For these reasons, we are requesting that you use outdoor water wisely.

While outdoor water restrictions have been rescinded, the State Board has decided that other restrictions will continue. Permanent restrictions for everyone include:

·         Hosing off sidewalks, driveways and other hardscapes

·         Washing automobiles with hoses not equipped with a shut-off nozzle

·         Using non-recirculated water in a fountain or other decorative water feature

·         Watering lawns in a manner that causes runoff, or within 48 hours after measurable precipitation

·         Irrigating ornamental turf on public street medians

In addition to the ongoing restrictions, we would like to encourage our shareholders and customers to continue to conserve water whenever possible. Fixing all water leaks and eliminating the unnecessary waste of water are vital to ensure our water needs are met, now and into the future.
