Grand Terrace Senior Center Cleans up for Spring

GRAND TERRACE>> On Saturday, April 29th, residents of the Grand Terrace Senior Center will host their own Spring Cleaning Work Day event, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The center invites the community to participate by assisting seniors in helping to clean areas of the facility. “We are going to chase dust bunnies out of everything,” said Flo Elliot, Volunteer Director of Senior Services. “Especially off of our shutters, blinds, and window sills.” With help from the community, the center will be able to regain a fresh appearance, as they will also be spot cleaning dining room chairs as well as cleaning exteriors of the facility. “We have a lot of windows that could use a washing,” Elliot said. An extended invitation has been given to high school service clubs such as the Interact Club, Key Club, Leo Club, and the National Honor Role Society, many of which already dedicate their time at the senior center. Volunteer students have previously been so helpful at the center, that the senior board has agreed to award two $500 scholarships to the student seniors who have demonstrated outstanding community service at the senior center. The community is also invited to help fund the scholarship to the awarded student seniors. The election process will start at the end of April. Senior students will be asked to submit a photo of themselves and a short essay of their school of choice, area of study, and their experience at the senior center. Through community efforts, the Grand Terrance Senior Center will be able to complete their spring-cleaning.
