Students at Terrace View Elementary “rocked” literacy on Wednesday, September 27 with a special event based on the book Only One You by Linda Kranz.

Community members including Grand Terrace Mayor Darcy McNaboe, Jackie Mitchell and Jody Barnett from Barnett Real Estate, Grand Terrace Firefighers Mike  Gregory, Dave Rose, and Tony Robles;  March Air Reserve Base staff SMSGT  Tim Hamblin, SrA Robert Becerra, Captain Frank Hanson, SrA Vania Godoy, TSGT Kevin Duffy,  and SMSGT William Ralph Griffey, Program Director for Girl Scouts San Gorgonio Council Mary Sawyer, retired teacher Kimberly Barrett, Terrace View alum Emilie Gleisberg and even the Red Dino Charge Power Ranger (aka Brennan Mejia) showed up to read with students.

Youngsters then participated in an art project in which they painted rocks to resemble the “rock fish” that are in Kranz’s book. The rocks will be used for a literacy rock garden that will beautify the school and remind students of their fun day reading. The project was made possible by a generous donation from Barnett Real Estate.

A literacy night event with activities for students and information for parents about the school’s new Accelerated Reader program also was planned for the evening.

The Terrace View project is just one of many creative ways that Colton Joint Unified School District campuses are promoting literacy.
