COLTON>> Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown is running for her third term representing the 47th Assembly District with the backing of the California Democratic Party and an endorsement list of all the mayors in the district. Brown was first elected to the California State Legislature on Nov. 6, 2012 for an area that spans Colton, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Rialto, San Bernardino and the unincorporated communities of Bloomington and Muscoy. During her first two terms she said she has helped pass laws that improve schools, protect seniors, disabled and veterans, and said she attracts entrepreneurs to create jobs in the Inland Empire. “I made it a commitment to improve the conditions of California's workforce. And helped pass a minimum wage increase, including voting for legislation that strengthens labor protections for domestic workers and homecare providers, and required employers to provide workers with paid sick leave,” Brown said. She is also endorsed by the California Small Business Association, California Federation of Teachers, United Domestic Workers of America and the United Farm Workers of America. As Chairwoman of the Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee, she said she secured $4.9 million in General Fund dollars for Caregiver Resource Centers through the budget process and fought for an additional 7 percent increase in funding for Long-Term Care and In-Home Support Services. “These achievements will allow seniors to age in their homes,” she said. “Ultimately saving the state billions of dollars in future medical costs.” As a Member of the Transportation Committee, Brown said she has been a critical partner in getting resources and funds needed to rebuild local highways, which includes the Mt. Vernon/I-215 Bridge, Mt. Vernon/I-10 Freeway Interchange, Fugg Street/ BSNF & Colton Project and the Mt. Vernon bridge widening project in Colton. According to Brown, keeping the communities safe is one of her top priorities. She said she supported legislation to ban firearms from entering California’s schools and supported legislation that protects the community’s air and water quality. “Since my first day on the job, I have been fighting for all of the families of the 47th District," Brown said. "I see my work as a public servant in Sacramento as an extension of my 30 years of community service. I continue to fight for our working families, seniors, students, and remain a constant advocate for our region.” As the Chair of the Select Committee on Small Business in the Inland Empire, Brown said it is important to bring more businesses to the region to bring more local jobs. At the recent Smart & Final Groundbreaking Ceremony in Colton, Brown said the opening of the store is a good example of city council working together for residents in making the community more self-sufficient. As well as bringing jobs to the local cities, Brown said more local businesses will help keep people off the freeways which would help provide better air quality. Prior to election to the legislature, Brown served on the San Bernardino County and City Planning Commissions for 17 years. During her tenure as a commissioner, she was elected president of the California County Planning Commissioners Association. Paid for by Cheryl R. Brown for Assembly 2016.
