Annual Animal Services Clinic A Success

Grand Terrace City Hall was raining cats and dogs on Feb. 11. Offering various veterinary services at low costs, the city hosted their annual Animal Services Clinic. Starting at 6 p.m., Grand Terrace residents came piling into City Hall with their furry loved ones. The clinic offered vaccinations, rabies shots and AVID Microchip Implants for $20. This microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and will make it easier to retrieve pets if they ever get lost. Each microchip has a unique identification number that links to the owner's contact information after the pet is registered in the pet recovery database. When shelters receive lost pets, they scan for this microchip and then contact the owner immediately. The microchip implantation also includes a lifetime registration with National PETtrac Registry, who has helped over 1 million pets reunite with their owners. This was an opportunity for residents to jump at, since microchip costs are typically double this rate at the veterinarian. Rabies shots were also being administered at a discounted rate of $6. This year's clinic saw about 40 furry visitors and their owners piling in to take advantage of the deals the clinic offered. “We know our residents love their animals and this is a great way to make sure they are healthy and happy,” said Interim City Manager Carol Jacobs. “Micro-chip implants have reunited thousands of animals with their owners.”
