GRAND TERRACE>> Chauntel Dunnigan had been working as a caregiver for the elderly victim at a senior home in Grand Terrace since September of this year. The victim initially noticed two of her personal checks missing that were later cashed by Dunnigan in her name. The victim also noticed several pieces of jewelry missing from her bedroom; the pieces were appraised at approximately $20,000. On Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, family members reported the thefts to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Central Station, where Deputy Carrico investigated the incident. Carrico conducted a thorough investigation and obtained an arrest warrant and search warrant for Dunnigan. On Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Carrico and detectives from Central Station located Dunnigan leaving her residence and took her into custody. They served the search warrant at her home and located some of the missing jewelry and a pawn slip. Detectives tracked down additional missing jewelry and were able to recover it before it was melted down. There were several pieces of miscellaneous gold jewelry located at Dunnigan’s residence indicating there are other possible victims that have been in contact with Dunnigan. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact Central Station.
