Grand Terrace High School Junior Brandon Rodriguez Silva’s good grades and attendance made it possible for him to score a New Chevy Trailblazer at the Colton Joint Unified School District’s 6th annual Tomorrow’s Leaders Celebration on Wednesday, May 3.

The recognition program is for all CJUSD high school students who meet requirements for attendance, behavior, and grades. It is designed to improve student performance, reinforce appropriate behaviors, and prepare students to be responsible members of the future workforce.

“We are so proud to be able to honor the hard work of our students in this way and encourage them to build good habits and a work ethic that will serve them well as they continue with their educations and eventually build their future careers,” Superintendent Frank Miranda said.

The celebration is held each year in one of the district’s high school stadiums. Only juniors and seniors enter the drawing for the car, donated by Rotolo Chevrolet. All qualifying students grades 9-12 enter drawings for prizes such as big screen TVs, laptops, and AirPods. Five students receive $500 scholarships donated by Inland Valley Educators Insurance. Other sponsors include 99.1 KGGI who DJ’s the event and Walmart.

“It takes the partnership of many in our community to make it possible to provide such amazing support and inspiration to our students,” Superintendent Miranda said. “Thank you so much to our Student Services Division and all our sponsors for making this happen.”

Brandon was one of five students whose names were drawn to possibly win the car. Each received an envelope to open in front of the crowd. Four received $200 gift cards and Brandon received the Trailblazer, donated by Rotolo Chevrolet. Standing next to it having his photo taken, he said he was still soaking in the surprise of being the one out of all the students there who scored the grand prize.
