At just 15 years old, Jacob Matthew Willis is already making his mark on the football field and in the classroom. A Sophomore at Grand Terrace High School with a 3.5 grade point average, Willis has been playing football since he was 6 years old and has continued to grow as both an athlete and a student.
Willis began his football journey with the Grand Terrace Junior All-American Football team before advancing to the high school level. He currently plays Varsity tackle football for Grand Terrace High School, where he contributes as a left guard and fullback. One of his accomplishments he is most proud of is earning a spot on the Varsity football team since his Freshman year. In the classroom, Willis is also part of the AVID program, demonstrating his commitment to preparing for his future beyond the football field.
One of Willis’ recent highlights came during the game against Palm Springs High School. When the team’s starting fullback was injured, Willis stepped in to fill the position, despite primarily playing left guard. His preparation and focus during practices and walkthroughs allowed him to confidently take on the unexpected challenge and contribute rushing yards for his team.
For Willis, being prepared to step into different roles is part of being a successful football player. His dedication during practices and walkthroughs has helped him develop the versatility needed to help his team whenever his coaches call on him. His ability to transition from the offensive line to the backfield demonstrates not only his athletic ability, but also his willingness to do whatever is needed for his team.
Away from football, Willis enjoys going to church, hiking, working out at the gym, and stargazing while listening to relaxing music. These activities give him opportunities to stay active, reflect, and enjoy time away from the demands of school and athletics.
One of the greatest influences in Willis’ life has been his Junior All-American Football coach, Coach Ochoa, along with Coach Ochoa’s sons, Izayah, Christian, and Dominic. Willis credits the Ochoa family with helping him grow both mentally and physically throughout his football journey. Whether being coached by Coach Ochoa and Christian or competing alongside Izayah and Dominic, Willis says they have continually pushed him to bring out the best in himself both on and off the field. Their influence has helped strengthen his passion for the game and encouraged him to continue challenging himself.
Looking toward the future, Willis hopes to attend college and continue his football career. His ultimate goal is to one day play in the NFL. However, he also understands that life can take unexpected turns. If a professional football career is not in his future, Willis hopes to remain involved in athletics by pursuing a career as a trainer.

Above all, Willis is grateful for the unwavering support of his family. He gives a special shoutout to his parents and grandparents, who he says always show up for him and continue to support him regardless of whether his team wins or loses.

As he looks toward his future, he is determined to keep working, keep improving, and continue pursuing the goals that inspire him.
