Zachary Scott Perez is 17 years old and currently a Senior at John W. North High School, where he maintains an impressive 3.14 GPA while balancing his academic responsibilities and athletic commitments. His dedication to both school and sports reflects his determination to continue growing up as a student athlete.

Zachary has been involved in sports since the age of four, participating in football, baseball, basketball, and golf. Throughout his athletic journey, he has played on teams throughout Riverside and Colton. On the football field, he plays as a wide receiver and defensive back, while on the basketball court, he takes on the role of point guard.

One of Zachary’s proudest accomplishments is earning JW North First Team All-Ivy League honors during the 2025–2026 season, recognizing his contributions and performance on the field.

A memorable highlight from a recent game against Hillcrest High School included making several tackles and recording two catches for 40 yards. Moments like these reflect the effort and determination he brings to the game.

Outside of athletics, Zachary enjoys listening to music and playing video games. When asked who motivates him to keep pushing forward, he shared, “My Dad, he always pushes me to be my best and make me a better man.” His response highlights the important role his father plays in encouraging him to grow both on and off the field.

Looking ahead, Zachary hopes to earn a full ride scholarship to play football at the college level. His goal reflects his ambition to continue competing, developing his skills, and pursuing opportunities beyond high school.

A quote Zachary would like to share is, “I was born to make mistakes, not to fake perfection.” — Drake. The message serves as a reminder that growth comes from learning, embracing challenges, and continuing to move forward.

Zachary would like to thank all his coaches, especially Coach Harris, for nominating him for this recognition and supporting him throughout his athletic journey.

We wish Zachary continued success as he finishes his Senior year and works toward his goals. With his dedication, determination, and the support of those who believe in him, there are many opportunities ahead. The best is yet to come!

As a special celebration of Zachary’s accomplishments, he was presented with an Athlete of the Week patch for his letterman jacket, sponsored by TME Photography and Harley’s. More than a moment of recognition, the patch serves as a keepsake honoring the commitment, preparation, and passion he has demonstrated throughout his athletic journey. May it always remind him of this chapter in his high school career and the coaches, family, and supporters who have helped him along the way.

Congratulations, Zachary! Keep working, keep believing, and keep chasing those goals. Your journey is just getting started!

An October City announcement draws attention to an everyday household practice with benefits for food budgets, kitchen safety and the environment. A basket of fresh produce can represent a week's worth of meals, the results of a successful backyard harvest or an unexpected bargain at the grocery store. Yet without proper storage, even the freshest fruits and vegetables can spoil before a family has an opportunity to use them.

An October announcement highlights how investigative technology and cooperation among law enforcement agencies can help solve crimes affecting Grand Terrace neighborhoods. For residents of Grand Terrace, home is more than an address. It is where families gather, children grow up and neighbors build relationships over many years. When a residential burglary occurs, the effects can extend beyond the property taken or damage caused. A crime inside someone's home can undermine the sense of security that makes a neighborhood feel safe.

The rumble of a commercial truck passing through a city can represent two very different things. For a business awaiting a delivery, it may signal the arrival of essential supplies. For residents living near a busy roadway, it may raise concerns about traffic, noise and safety. In Grand Terrace, finding a reasonable balance between those interests is at the center of an ongoing transportation planning effort.

A city is often judged by what residents experience every day: the condition of its streets, the reliability of public services, the availability of recreational programs and the ease of obtaining information from local government. Behind those everyday experiences are departments and employees whose work rarely attracts national attention.
