Metrolink today announced that limited fare increases will take effect Oct. 5, 2026, as approved by the Metrolink Board of Directors in June. These targeted adjustments, which apply to One-Way Tickets and the SoCal Day Pass, represent Metrolink’s first fare increase in 13 years.
The changes come as Metrolink and transit agencies across the country continue to face rising operating and maintenance costs, reduced post-pandemic ridership, and declining state and federal funding support.
“Metrolink has worked hard to keep fares affordable while the cost of operating and maintaining our regional rail system has continued to rise,” said Metrolink CEO Darren Kettle. “These pricing adjustments are one step in a broader effort we are taking to responsibly address those pressures and support Metrolink’s long-term financial sustainability, while preserving a simpler fare structure and the valuable discounts that make our service more accessible to riders across Southern California.”
Since July 2025, Metrolink has operated a simplified fare structure designed to reduce ticket complexity, expand discounts and provide customers with more flexible options. The structure introduced new products, including the SoCal Day Pass and LA Zone Day Pass, and is providing customers with additional ways to save when traveling throughout the region. In June, the Metrolink Board voted to make the simplified fare structure permanent.
Beginning October 5:
- One-Way Tickets will increase by 14% on average.
- SoCal Day Passes will be $19 on weekdays and $12 on weekends and holidays.
Nearly 80% of one-way purchases will see an increase of up to $1. Less than 1% will increase by more than $2.
The price of multi-day pass options, including the 5-Day Flex Pass and Monthly Passes, will shift slightly based on Metrolink’s pricing model, which factors one-way trips into its cost formula. Some customers may see prices decrease while others will see a small increase.
Metrolink’s everyday discounts for students, youth, seniors, riders with disabilities, veterans and active military members, Medicare recipients and low-income customers will continue to be available.
