The Moreno Valley Unified School District has been selected to receive a prestigious Golden Bell Award on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, for its commitment to engage students in early college opportunities through its Dual Enrollment Program.

Now in its 46th year, this award is sponsored by the California School Boards Association to recognize outstanding programs and governance practices of school districts and boards throughout California. The Golden Bell Awards reflect the depth and breadth of education programs and governance decisions that support these programs, addressing students’ changing needs.

“This Golden Bell Award is a powerful testament to the hard work and commitment invested by our staff and, most importantly, our students,” said Superintendent Alejandro Ruvalcaba. “Students are taking on college-level rigor, completing their coursework, and earning free college credit, accelerating their path to success.”

This year, there were 263 entries that were submitted for 23 categories. Experts from school districts and county offices of education participated in the selection process, which included in-person and virtual validation visits.

“Our Dual Enrollment program is creating powerful pathways to college and career success,” said School Board President Sammie Luna. “By allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school, we not only accelerate their academic journey but also build their confidence and expand their future opportunities.”

A few highlights of the program include:

  • The number of dual enrollment course sections offered has increased dramatically, growing from eight sections to 21 sections for the 2024–2025 school year.

  • The success rate for students completing these college courses has steadily risen, climbing from 85% in 2021 to a high of 89% in 2024.

  • All resources and textbooks are provided, making the program a zero-cost experience for students and their families, in partnership with Moreno Valley College

  • The program empowers students to graduate high school with college credits

  • The program serves many students from underrepresented backgrounds
