With the November 3, 2026 General Election drawing closer, San Bernardino County voters are beginning to get a clearer picture of the candidates and local measures that will appear on ballots this fall.
Candidate filing for offices participating in the November election began July 13 and reached its regular filing deadline on August 7, according to the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters. The conclusion of the filing period marks an important step in preparing ballots and voter information for communities throughout the county.
At the same time, several local ballot measures are moving through the election process. The Registrar of Voters' current list includes measures submitted by cities, school and community college districts, and other local jurisdictions. One of the measures currently listed is a bond proposal from the San Bernardino Community College District.
August is an important month for those measures because arguments, impartial analyses and rebuttals are being finalized for inclusion in voter information materials. For measures submitted between July 11 and August 7, the deadline for impartial analyses was August 17 at 5 p.m., while arguments for or against those measures were due at noon the same day. Rebuttal arguments are due August 21 at 5 p.m.
Those materials are intended to help residents understand the questions they will be asked to decide. Under the county's election procedures, qualifying measures may be accompanied by an impartial analysis explaining their effect, as well as arguments for and against the proposal and rebuttals. A 10-day public examination period follows the applicable submission deadlines.
For voters, the next major milestones arrive in late September and October. County Voter Information Guides are scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. Postal Service beginning September 29. Mail ballots are scheduled to be mailed beginning October 5, which is also when early voting begins. The voter registration deadline for the election is October 19, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
The upcoming election follows San Bernardino County's June statewide primary, in which 403,549 of the county's 1,234,386 registered voters participated, representing turnout of approximately 32.7 percent. Nearly 89 percent of participating voters cast their ballots by mail.
