On Thursday, August 8, 2024, at approximately 12:59 a.m., deputies assigned to Central Station responded to the 1000 block of N. Grand Avenue, in the unincorporated county area of Colton, for a reported shooting. When deputies arrived, they located the victim, Cory Manjarrez, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medical aid arrived and transported Manjarrez to an area hospital for treatment.

Through investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Edward Joseph Marquez, of Colton. Marquez fled the scene prior to deputies arriving and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, officers with the Rialto Police Department contacted Marquez and arrested him for his outstanding arrest warrant, along with additional unrelated charges. Marquez was booked at West Valley Detention Center where he remains in custody in lieu of $2,030,000.00 bail.
