The Big Bear Valley branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW-BBV) sends qualifying Big Bear 8th grade girls interested in the STEM fields—science, technology, engineering and math—to summer “Tech Trek” camp on a college campus. Last year, the group sent 10 girls for which AAUW paid $900 per girl and parents only pay $50.
