On Sunday, March 3rd it was a beautiful and cool day for our Grand Terrace residents. Even more so because the city was having its 12th Annual Walk on Blue Mountain. Volunteers were set up at various stations and markers that gave walkers due miles and traveled as well as the current altitude.
I am 87-years old and proud to say that I was able to yet again accomplish this amazing trip up Blue Mountain. Not only was I able to do it, but I did it in the joyous company of my grandchildren and the rest of the Grand Terrace community. Along my way up I had to stop and wait for my grand kids to catch up to me. During my waiting I came across Grand Terrace city Councilmember Bill Hussey and his wife. They were making their way down the mountain just before I had reached the top sign in. Bill even passed me up on his second trip!
It was a great feeling to see the community so involved, and an even greater feeling completing this walk at my age. I made the wise choice once I had finished my walk to order an Uber to take me home. Unfortunately, they never showed up! Thankfully there was a Deputy who saw my predicament and offered his assistance. County Deputy Sheriff Spears had his quad at the walk and offered to take me home. It just goes to show you that this community is always gearing and ready to help each other even in the smallest predicaments.
The Walk on Blue Mountain is held annually and it gives members of our community a chance to gather together and embrace nature, and each other. We walk together on our prideful mountain and we help each other along the way.
