A Life of Dedication

Chaplain Andy Curtain volunteers his service at Colton’s Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s behavior treatment center. He was a guest speaker at the San Bernardino Christian Business Men Connection (CBMC) meeting at 7 am April 4th at the Denny’s on Valley in Colton.

He said, “If I don’t offer these people spiritual help, who will?” Andy became a Christian early on in his life. As a high school senior at Eisenhower High School in Rialto he dedicated his life for full time service wherever God would use him.

At 19 years old he joined the navy, where he proudly served for over twenty years. During those years he conducted a men’s bible study aboard the ship. On one ship the Captain came to see him in his quarters and asked him, “What are you doing to my ship?” Andy responded, “Just sharing my faith in Jesus Christ.” The Captain told him, “Whatever that is, keep it up; it is a real morale builder.”

Andy advanced his leadership skills at San Bernardino Valley College and Campus Crusade for Christ at Arrowhead Springs California. Most of Andy’s training was to be a deep sea diver in the navy salvage work.

Andy shared with the men that his work at behavioral health reminds the patients that they have a God who loves them and who is a great therapy and morale builder.  Andy supplements his retirement income as a security officer. He works from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Working these hours limits his time and energy for his Chaplain ministry which is very challenging and hard to supply with volunteer chaplains. However, this does not stop him from doing it all as Andy comments, “I love it.”
