Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-Grand Terrace) released the following statement on Governor Brown’s State of the State address.

“With a democratically controlled legislature and a democratic Governor, California has been able to make major accomplishments while Washington DC continues to play politics and games. The State's increased commitment to financially supporting our public colleges and universities is exactly what needs to be happening as we move forward in mitigating the student debt crisis and costs of a college education.

“The Governor's focus on the goals of increasing low-emission and zero-emission vehicles is noble and ambitious, and ultimately necessary to help decrease the air pollutants in many districts across the State.  Clearly, the Governor understands that fighting for our environment is a matter of life and death as disadvantaged communities across our state shoulder the burden of dirty air and water. The Governor addressed the need to build infrastructure, improve our roads and bring well-paying jobs to our community. This is what we need."

“Governor Brown has done a tremendous job of guiding California out of the recession and budget deficits from the housing collapse and now, our state’s economy is among the strongest in the country. I think the core of what the Governor was talking about in his speech is hope. California was built on dreams and perseverance, and we need to preserve that for future generations as best  we can.”
