Dedication, perseverance, and a relentless work ethic have helped 18-year-old Kobee Finnikin establish himself as one of the Inland Empire's most accomplished student-athletes. A recent graduate of Corona High School, Kobee balanced the demands of academics and athletics while maintaining an impressive 3.5 GPA and earning numerous honors throughout his high school career.
Kobee has been involved in sports since he was just three years old, developing a passion for both baseball and football at an early age. On the baseball diamond, he excelled as an infielder and shortstop, while his athleticism also made him a standout football player.
His list of accomplishments is extensive. Kobee graduated with honors, earned Desert Sun Athlete of the Year recognition twice, was selected three times to the All-League First Team in baseball, and twice to the All-League First Team in football. He also earned the opportunity to compete in the Inland Empire Baseball Classic at San Manuel Stadium, where many of the top baseball players from Riverside and San Bernardino counties were selected to showcase their talents in a Riverside County versus San Bernardino County all-star matchup. His outstanding play on the field ultimately led to a commitment to play Division I baseball at California Baptist University.
One performance that stands out to Kobee came during the state baseball playoffs. Understanding the importance of preparation, he arrived at the field early, completed his stretching routine, and went through a workout to activate his muscles before first pitch. His preparation paid off as he went 2-for-3 at the plate and launched a home run. Moments like that reinforced the value of discipline, preparation, and consistency.
Kobee credits high school athletics for helping him grow both physically and mentally. Through countless practices, games, and repetitions, he developed a deeper understanding of baseball and learned what it takes to compete at a high level.
When he is not competing, Kobee enjoys spending time with friends and family and staying active through sports. His biggest motivation comes from the people closest to him.
“My mom and family have always pushed me from the jump to be the best I can be,” Kobee said. “They guide me to success and always believe in me.”
Looking ahead, Kobee plans to continue his baseball career at California Baptist University, where he hopes to further develop his skills at the Division I level. His long-term goal is to enter the Major League Baseball Draft within the next three years and earn an opportunity to play professionally.
A quote Kobee lives by is, “You are who you strive to be with hard work and grit.” He also wants readers to understand that success is possible for anyone willing to put in the effort. “You can do anything you strive for. I was just a small kid in a valley last year, and now I’m competing against great competition and getting exposure. It wasn’t easy, but my family and I put our heads down and worked. It’s truly God’s blessing, and without Him nothing is possible.”
With his combination of talent, humility, determination, and strong family support, Kobee Finnikin has built a foundation for success both on and off the field. As he begins the next chapter of his baseball journey at California Baptist University, there is little doubt that his work ethic and competitive spirit will continue to open doors for future opportunities. The best is yet to come for Kobee.
