MORENO VALLEY>> The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is continuing its Five Dollar Fridays Cat & Kitten Adoption promotion every Friday in the month of August. On Aug. 12, Aug. 19 and Aug. 26, citizens are invited to adopt a cat or kitten at the shelter. For a small price of only $5, community members can bring home a cat or kitten. Included in the $5 adoption fee is spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations and a HomeAgain microchip. Steve Fries, Animal Services Division Manager for more than seven years, said the shelter expects there will be a lot of cats and kittens ready for a home. "There are really a lot of nice cats and kittens that we have that come in and its better to adopt from a shelter," Fries said. "We provide a great value in terms of adopting a pet." Fries said the shelter will also offer a free veterinarian exam for the first check up with the veterinarian clinic. Normally, a cat or kitten adoption costs about $46 dollars for the adoption, vaccinations, and microchip. The spay or nueter fee can range between $20-$55. The promotion will continue to run in September and Fries said in July, the shelter saw more than 80 cats and kittens get adopted. On Fridays, the shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Adoption gift certificates are also available at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter, located at 14041 Elsworth Street. For more information about the pet adoption promotions, contact the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter at 951.413.3790 or visit the city's web site at www.moval.org and click on "Animal Shelter".
