GRAND TERRACE>> On Sunday, Feb. 19, Larry Martin Hathorne, in-house producer at Grand Terrace Health Care Center, will be hosting his usual Sunday Morning Music Special and will also feature a movie in honor of Black History Month at the Grand Terrace Health Care Center. Hathorne has been the in-house producer for two years at the care center. Before coming to the center, he had worked jobs in drafting and designing, in real estate development, and as a print model and an entertainment producer. Hathorne describes himself as a creative and business type of person, combining his creative mind with smart business practices. He is also a longtime member of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Urban league, and the Rhythm of Blues Foundation. “I decided to do something that celebrated black music, black heroes and black movies,” Hathorne said. The event will open at 8 a.m. with a tribute to Nat King Cole, a prominent African-American Jazz singer and pianist, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Then, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., a film screening will take place of the hit broadway play, “Raisin in the Sun,” a movie adaptation from 1961 starring prominent African-American actor Sidney Poitier. Coffee and refreshments will be served during the event. Hathorne is also working on future projects to host at the Grand Terrace Health Care Center to celebrate different ethnic heritages and will also be starting an online show called “Larry Martin Mail Room” which will be premiering in March. For more information, contact Hathorne at (909) 662-5539.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
