GRAND TERRACE>> Residents of Grand Terrace are invited to attend a Pavement Management Workshop Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall. The city encourages the community to attend to learn how the city will spend more than $2 million to improve the road system. According to the Pavement Management Program, the purpose of a Pavement Management Program is to establish and maintain a uniform definition and procedure for the application of various maintenance strategies to extend the overall expected life cycle of the city’s transportation system in the most economical and efficient manner. In addition, it provides a multi-year work plan that can be implemented based on expected and/or desired needs and funding. A pavement management system formalizes the process by using computer software. The procedure is to collect, organize and maintain a complete roadway database that describes the city’s road network system. This data is then analyzed to identify existing deterioration levels, prioritize cost-effective repairs and create an optimal long-term spending plan. Residents can also go online to the city website to type in their street name and learn the rating of the pavement near them.
