GRAND TERRACE>> Residents are invited to get out their running shoes and join the third annual Grand Terrace Lions 5k and 10k Fun Run/Walk for FREEDOM Sept. 25 at Pico Park. The event will start at 8 a.m. and awards will be presented to the first three men and the first three women in each age division including those under 20, ages 20-29, 30-20, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and those who are 70 years old and over. Everyone is welcome to participate including runners, walkers and strollers. Although this year marks the third year the event has taken place, this will be the first year the 10K will be added. "What began as a way for the Grand Terrace Lions to raise funds to support the Veterans Wall of Freedom now has the potential, as it continues to grow, to become a signature event and benefiting not only the Grand Terrace Lions Club but also the community of the City of Grand Terrace," said James McNaboe, president of the Lions Club. "With the realization of what was a dream in the Veterans Wall of Freedom, this event is a good way to bring the community together for a fun, outdoor activity but it can also be used to raise funds for a next big project – perhaps a new community center to replace the one that closed last year or some other equally important project." Each participant will receive a T-shirt and a goodie bag. Pico Park is located at 21950 Pico St. in Grand Terrace, California. The event website states there will be ample parking for the event at the Grand Terrace High School, located at 21810 Main St. in Grand Terrace. The course is a fast and relatively flat out and back route, starting and ending at Pico Park in Grand Terrace. The current cost for the 5K run/walk is $40, while the cost for the 10K is $45. To register for the race, visit LionsFreedomRun.Racewire.com, or register in person on the day of the event between 6 - 7:30 a.m.
