After celebrating the City’s 39th Birthday, the Grand Terrace City Council voted this past Tuesday, December 12, 2017 to approve a Banner program to mark a year’s long celebration to honor the City’s 40th anniversary.  City staff decided that the Banner program would highlight the City Council’s Goal #4 of the 2030 Vision Statement by supporting successful community partnerships by collaboratively working with the different community groups.  As stated in the staff report, the City of Grand Terrace either participates and or supports a number of community activities throughout the year.  Some of those programs range from the City’s Historical and Cultural committee Annual Art Show,Country Fair and Annual Birthday Celebration plus other events such as Community Day, Veterans Day and Fourth of July Celebration.  Of course this 40th Anniversary for the City is a big deal and what city staff has proposed is a year-long celebration by hanging 40th Anniversary Light Pole Banners along Barton Road and Mt. Vernon Avenue.  The City will solicit and hopefully obtain sponsorships for the banners from local community groups and businesses.  The sponsors would pay $500 for a banner that celebrates the City’s anniversary and their tenure in the community.

Currently, there are 26 light poles throughout the City of Grand Terrace where the proceeds from the sales will be used to also purchase banners to celebrate five (5) traditional community events (as mentioned previously).  The overall goal for the program is to celebrate the City’s long history of community programming without creating any financial burden on the City’s general fund.  The proceeds from the sale of the banners will hopefully cover all production costs.  Very minimal staff time will be needed to hang the banners on the light standards.
