Eloise Gomez-Reyes, Assembly Member for the 47th District, and Grand Terrace resident, has endorsed Council Member Ken Henderson for the Grand Terrace City Council 2-year seat. In a telephone conversation on October 10, 2018, Assembly Member Gomez-Reyes indicated, “I believe you are, absolutely, the right person for the job and the person best equipped to help lead Grand Terrace to a prosperous future. I am very pleased to endorse your campaign for the Grand Terrace City Council”.
This endorsement from Assembly Member Gomez-Reyes comes at an important time in Grand Terrace’s present and in its future. As a resident of Grand Terrace, Assembly Member Reyes knows the needs of our community better than any other elected official serving in the Assembly and state Senate. Her endorsement of me has been amplified by the endorsement of other individuals and organizations that play a critical role in the everyday life of the Grand Terrace community.
I am the only City Council candidate to be endorsed by the 3800+ member Sheriff Employees’ Benefit Association (SEBA). Before retiring, I worked successfully with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department over a period of some nineteen years. In fact Sheriff McMahon was my police chief in Apple Valley for five years before moving up in the organization. The endorsement from SEBA is a reflection of the cooperative, and collaborative, relationships I developed over the years with the organization, which served to benefit the communities where I previously worked and Grand Terrace when I served as Interim City Manager.
The central focus of my campaign theme, Grand Blue Rising, is economic sustainability, first, and economic prosperity, second (www.kenhendersongt2018.com). During last week’s Candidates’ Forum, I referenced my late father’s successful triple bypass surgery as exactly what Grand Terrace needed to secure its economic future; triple bypass surgery in its business to business, business to government and business to community relationships so any and all barriers can be removed wherever possible. If we do this, and do it well, we cannot help but succeed, especially if a better educated workforce is an integral part of our efforts.
An educated work force is an important part of individual, community and region-wide success. This is why I am very pleased to be endorsed by the former President of the Colton Joint Unified School District Board of Education, Roger Kowalski, and three current members of the Board, Dan Flores, Randall Ceniceros and Kent Taylor, respectively. Education is a key predictor of future success and these current members of the Board play critical roles in placing our youths in the best possible position for future success.
Want a Starbucks, or similar coffee shop? Are you tired of fighting the traffic on our local freeways to visit your favorite restaurants? Where do you go to shop for clothes for yourself or your children? Where do you go for furniture, home improvement supplies, a general merchandise store like Target, or one a step or two higher in the food chain like Macy’s? Of course, your answers to all these questions are you have to leave town to purchase these goods and services.
This means, of course, all of your sales tax dollars leave Grand Terrace for other communities like Riverside, Redlands, Ontario and Montclair. If you want many of your shopping needs to be met by Grand Terrace business establishments and national retail tenants locating here; if you want to keep your hard earned dollars in the city where you reside; if you are looking for a way to help fund enhanced law enforcement services, install critical public infrastructure and provide more and better cultural amenities and community facilities, then, hop on the Grand Blue Rising train and vote for me on November 6th. Our most significant project has created the best economic opportunity in the history of the City. Let’s not fumble the ball as we have in the past. Let’s make 2019 the beginning of our economic renaissance.
