This past Wednesday evening, the City of Grand Terrace celebrated its 39th Birthday at City Hall in front of many dignitaries and residents.  The Historical & Cultural Activities Committee, as always, arranged a superb pot-luck dinner and had a wide selection of goodies to feast upon.  The Committee also selected Terrace Hills Middle School to be the special honoree for the evening.  Mayor Darcy McNaboe was the emcee for the evening, and the first order of business was Assemblywoman Eloise Gomez Reyes, a 22 years resident in Grand Terrace, with husband Frank, presenting the City a certificate of recognition from the Assembly of California for its 39th Birthday.  Thereafter, Councilman Doug Wilson gave the prayer for the evening meal and program.

The evening program consisted of Principal Scott Boggs showcasing the wonderful student mentoring programs being applied at the Middle School to assist new students coming from grade school and joining the older students in both the classroom and in field work.  The different groups that take 7th graders under their wings are labeled as:  Cores, Web Crews, and ASB leaders.  All of the groups help integrate the incoming seventh graders into a close-knit family of students at Terrace Hills.  The final event of the evening, of course, was the cutting of the 39th anniversary cake by all of the council members present and Mayor McNaboe.  The Mayor said, “Each year is special but next year will mark the city’s 40th anniversary and that event will be extraordinarily special indeed.”  ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAND TERRACE’, see you next year!!
